Creating message rules:

E-mail rules can help you organize your e-mail messages as well as delete unwanted messages automatically.  They can work in conjunction with folders.  To learn how to create folders, click the 'Folders' link above.

In this example we'll create a message rule that will allow Goldmine to automatically delete certain unwanted e-mails.

Right click in the Inbox area and select Setup -> Set up E-mail rules from the menus.

The E-mail Rules Center opens.

Click New and select New Rule Set from the menu.

The E-mail Rules Wizard launches.

E-mail Rules Wizard:  Welcome!

To begin, please enter a unique name for this E-mail Rule:

Give the new rule a name.  In this example, I chose 'Unwanted'.

Select what type of E-mail should this rule handle:

For this example, I selected Incoming E-mail.

Click the Next button to continue.

Edit "Unwanted" Conditions:

Select the option ANY ONE of the following conditions may be true.

We'll now do two things:  Give the rule a condition and an action.

The Condition:

Click the New button.

The E-mail Rule: Condition window appears.

Mail Field  =  Select From from the drop-down menu.
Logical condition  =  Select Contains from the drop-down menu.
Value  =  Enter a value.  In this example, I entered 'motherinlaw@ispname.com'.

Click the OK button when finished.

Now when an e-mail arrives where the From field contains motherinlaw@ispname.com, Goldmine will perform an action.  We'll stipulate the action next.

Click the Next button to continue.

The Action:

Now we'll assign an action to the rule, or in other words, we'll tell Goldmine what to do with certain e-mails.

Click the New button.

Action on Mail  =  Click the down-arrow and select Delete from server from the menu.

Click the OK button to close the window.

Anytime Goldmine receives an e-mail where the From line contains motherinlaw@ispname.com, it will delete the message.  You'll never see it in the Inbox.

Click the Finish button to complete the wizard.

The new e-mail rule now appears in the E-mail Rules Center.

There are myriad rules you can create.  You can experiment to find out which ones work best for you.

Close the window when you're finished.
